Amino HPLC Columns for Normal Phase and HILIC Chromatography
Cogent HPS™ Amino HPLC Columns are designed for the analysis of sugars, carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, and other polar compounds using either Normal Phase or HILIC (Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography) modes. Built on proprietary High Purity Silica (HPS™) with less than 1 ppm total metals content, these columns deliver excellent efficiency, durability, reproducibility, and lot-to-lot consistency.
Manufactured with 5µm, 120Å high-purity silica and proprietary trifunctional bonding technology, Cogent HPS™ Amino Columns provide unique selectivity for challenging polar analytes while maintaining the robustness required for routine analytical and method development applications.
Applications for Cogent HPS™ Amino Columns
These columns are frequently used for:
Sugar and carbohydrate analysis
Organic and carboxylic acid separations
Food and beverage testing
Pharmaceutical analysis
Polar compound retention
Normal phase chromatography
HILIC method development
Alternative selectivity to traditional reversed-phase columns
Unique Amino Stationary Phase Selectivity
The amino-propyl ligand creates a polar stationary phase capable of interacting with compounds through multiple retention mechanisms. Due to the polarity of the bonded amino functionality, analytes are separated based on:
Polarity
Hydrogen bonding interactions
Molecular size
Access to the bonded ligand
Hydrophilic interactions
These combined mechanisms provide unique selectivity that is often beneficial when traditional reversed-phase chromatography does not provide adequate retention or resolution.
Normal Phase and HILIC Flexibility
While amino columns are most commonly operated in Normal Phase HPLC, the Cogent HPS™ Amino phase can also perform effectively in HILIC mode for highly polar analytes.
This flexibility allows analysts to optimize retention and selectivity using different mobile phase approaches without changing stationary phases.
Available Column Formats
Cogent HPS™ Amino Columns are available in:
Analytical columns
Guard columns
Preparative columns
All columns are manufactured using 5µm particles with 120Å pore size for reproducible chromatographic performance.
For additional dimensions, preparative formats, or process-scale configurations, contact MICROSOLV Customer Service.
Recommended Column Protection
To maximize column life and maintain chromatographic performance, MICROSOLV recommends using a Cogent HPLC Column Filter, which is included with each column whenever possible.
